This video “Buenos Aires: the
Paris of America”, by Buscamundos, is a cultural program produced in
Spain, in Spanish. It shows a vibrant cultural city, with the most beautiful
places and the most relevant institutions: theaters, the Congress, the famous
Plaza de Mayo, Barrio La Boca, Gardel and the tango, libraries, bookstores,
Café Tortoni, and also short interviews to Eduardo Galeano in the unique
bookstore built within an Italian theater, and to Ricardo Darín, one of the
most popular actors in Argentina.

Argentina Airport fee
There is an Argentinean entry fee to be paid ONLINE before travel. Go to https://reciprocidad.provincianet.com.ar/ , sign up and follow instructions to pay with credit card and print receipt.
The fees vary country by country, and some countries are exempt. For Americans, it is a one-time fee that allows them to enter the country multiple times over the period of 10 years.

from downtown Buenos Aires; the trip takes 40-50 minutes (depending on
traffic).
As soon as you claim your baggage
and exit the customs area of the airport, you will notice that many people will
approach you and offer car services to the city. We recommend you NOT to accept
any of these services since they usually take advantage of tourists.

Seminar meetings will be at UMET
Universidad Metropolitana para la Educación y el Trabajo on downtown Buenos
Aires (Sarmiento 2037, Buenos Aires). Although in the next future we will
provide accurate information about hotels, studios and apartments in the area, we
can anticipate monthly rates between $ 900 and $ 1,200 for studios/apartments,
and between $ 90 and 150 per night at 3 and 4 stars hotels. Our classroom, and
all the selected hotels and apartments will have wi-fi access to Internet, but
NEH Summer Scholars will be required to use their own computers during our
meetings and in their hotel or apartment.
Hotels and apartments will be previously inspected by Lic. Aída Pierini, our onsite consultant in Buenos Aires who has extensive experience in lodging and housing. We will provide a list of hotels and apartments, exact rates and ways for our participants to make direct reservations and how to contact designed persons related to our Seminar.

Buenos Aires is a very large city and our suggestions of hotels and apartments are guided by the idea of keeping a convenient located housing to facilitate our meetings and promote a sense of community. Our ideal is an arrangement where our scholars are able to live close to each other and have access to a common area for informal discussions and study. Our meetings will have an hour for lunch; we will select bars and restaurants where to have affordable and healthy meals.

SUBE Card
Although one can pay in cash for
the different means of transportation, it is convenient to use a SUBE card. It
is a rechargeable card that allows one to pay for public transportation. It can
be recharged in a variety of shops. To obtain one, one must approach any of
Collection Centers in the city. More information:
A. Subway (Metro or subway)
The hours of operation are from
hour 8 to hour 22. The travel is payable at the station of origin, and the fee
is only regardless of the section to be performed. The lines are
interconnected, and it is possible to include combinations at no extra cost.

B. Collectivos/ Buses
The collectivos/ buses are a
popular form of fast transportation within the city of Buenos Aires. They are
very economic. They are in service all day, but after midnight decrease in
frequency. The cost of the trip depends on the distance to travel, so when you
board you must specify the destination to the driver.
C. Train
The railway network is an
extension of 400 km across the city and also covers the area north and west of
Buenos Aires (suburbs), connecting with the metro and the buses. The cost of

D. Taxi
Taxis are a very common means of
transportation in Buenos Aires. It is easy to find them available on the
streets (with the red sign “FREE” ON) or can be requested by phone. The value
of a path depends on the distance and time of travel, as well as the time it is
being taken.
We strongly recommend taking
those ones which are RADIO TAXI. You can also open your account with any of
those companies and use your cell phone to call for a taxi when you need it.
They will provide you with the identification number of the unit which will
pick you up.
The fee consists of a fixed
initial charge additional for every 200 meters traveled or per minute of
waiting. In the evening hours (between 22 pm and 6 am) rate increases. Ordering

To rent a car the person renting
must be greater than 21 years of age, have valid driver's license and credit
card with enough to cover the rent, warranty and insurance required.

A. Caminito
It is located in the neighborhood
of La Boca.
How do you get there: collectives
20, 25, 29, 33, 46, 53, 64, 152.
This street is a favorite of both
visitors and locals. Their houses are typical of La Boca and its walls are made
of sheet painted different colors. The shape of this "Caminito" is
because it follows the course of a stream that flowed until the early twentieth
century. The street is named after the famous tango of Gabino Coria Peñalosa
and Juan de Dios Filiberto. In 1959 Caminito officially opened as an open
museum.
B. Plaza de Mayo
Located between Bolivar,
Balcarce, H. Yrigoyen and Rivadavia streets within the neighborhood of
Monserrat.
How to get there: Subway, line A,
station Plaza de Mayo; line D, Cathedral Station; line E, Bolívar station.
It is the oldest square in Buenos
Aires and has its name is a tribute to the Revolution of May 25th, 1810.
It is surrounded by the Casa Rosada (home of the national government), the
Cabildo, Buenos Aires Government Palace and the Cathedral.
C. Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes
Located in Av. Del Libertador
1473, in the neighborhood of Recoleta.

It houses the largest and most
important collection of Argentine art. It was opened in 1896 and among its
works are pieces by Rodin, Goya, Renoir, Degas, Cézanne, El Greco and Picasso
among others. The hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday from 12:30 to
20:30. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 9:30 to 19:30 pm.
D. MALBA (Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires)
Located on Av. Figueroa Alcorta
3415, in the neighborhood of Palermo.

It is one of the most modern
museums in Buenos Aires and one of the most prestigious on the continent.
Exhibits works of Botero, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, among others. Open from
Thursday to Monday and holidays from 12 to 20 hs. and Wednesday until 21pm.
Closed on Tuesdays.
E. Bosques de Palermo

It is one of the largest green
spaces in Buenos Aires. In the forest there are two artificial lakes that can
be traveled by boat or water bike. Within this park is the Rose Garden, a
garden with more than 10,000 roses.
F. Obelisco
It is located at the intersection
of Avenida 9 of Julio and Corrientes.

The Obelisco has a height of 67.5
meters and on each of its faces a review is made a historical fact of Buenos
Aires: first foundation of the city in 1536; the final foundation in 1580; when
the
national flag was raised in the
city in 1812; and when the Constitution declared the city as the national
capital.
G. Teatro Colón
It is located on 618 Cerrito
Street in the neighborhood of St. Nicholas.

It is one of the major opera
houses of the world stage. Its central hall is considered to have one of the
best acoustics in the world. In its dome, you can see the paintings of Raul
Soldi.

6. THEATERS
Complejo Teatral San Martín
General San Martín Cultural Centre is a
cultural centre located near the major thoroughfare Corrientes Ave. The
Teatro San Martín (General San Martín Theater) is an important public theater
in Buenos Aires, located on Corrientes Ave. and adjacent to
the Cultural Center of the same name. It is one of the major theaters
in Argentina and offers venues for the representation of stage works and
film, as well as art exhibitions. There three important theater houses there:
Sala Martín Coronado, Sala Casacuberta y Sala Cunill Cabanellas. Other theaters
in Buenos Aires are also part of the Centre.
Teatro Cervantes
The Teatro Nacional
Cervantes is the national stage and comedy theatre of Argentina.
It is located on Córdoba Ave.
Centro Cultural de la Cooperación is located in front of Teatro General San Martin on Corrientes Ave. It has several spaces for theater and lectures and very dynamic cultural programs. Also it provides a nice environment for a coffee, good conversation and a bookstore with new publications on theater.
Centro Cultural Borges, located in Galerías Pacífico (Viamonte esq. San Martín), offers cultural programs (lectures, exhibitions, workshops) and also films, theater and everything related to visual and performing arts.
Centro Cultural Recoleta
The Centro Cultural Recoleta is
one of the most important cultural centers of the city. Located in the Recoleta
barrio, was declared a National Historic Landmark and is part of a pole of
attraction and entertainment, next to Recoleta Cemetery and Plaza Francia.
